Data Source and Calculation

Acquisitions of appropriate specimens and output of prepared specimens from the laboratories. All acquisitions are recorded as they come in and a report is presented to the Board of Trustees. Acquisitions are partially opportunistic and numbers may vary significantly from year to year.

3,506 The data is constantly gathered as specimens come into the museum and are then entered into the database on Re:Discovery. Specimens added in 2005 include a valuable collection of plant fossils, vertebrate remains, and assorted minerals, rocks, and biological specimens. Archiving this material, much of which could be lost to future generations of scientists, is an integral part of our mission.
14,521 The data is constantly gathered as specimens come into the museum and are then entered into the database on Re:Discovery. Specimens added in 2006 include a valuable collection of plant fossils, vertebrate remains, and assorted minerals, rocks, and biological specimens. Archiving this material, much of which could be lost to future generations of scientists, is an integral part of our mission.
6,641 The data is constantly gathered as specimens come into the museum and are then entered into the database on Re:Discovery. Specimens added in 2007 include a valuable collection of plant fossils, vertebrate remains, and assorted minerals, rocks, and biological specimens. Archiving this material, much of which could be lost to future generations of scientists, is an integral part of our mission.
7,028 The data is constantly gathered as specimens come into the museum and are then entered into the database on Re:Discovery. Specimens added in 2008 include a valuable collection of plant fossils, vertebrate remains, and assorted minerals, rocks, and biological specimens. Archiving this material, much of which could be lost to future generations of scientists, is an integral part of our mission.
17,014 The data is constantly gathered as specimens come into the museum and are then entered into the database on Re:Discovery. Specimens added in 2009 include a valuable collection of plant fossils, vertebrate remains, and assorted minerals, rocks, and biological specimens. Archiving this material, much of which could be lost to future generations of scientists, is an integral part of our mission.
19,868 The data is constantly gathered as specimens come into the museum and are then entered into the database on Re:Discovery. Specimens added in 2010 include a valuable collection of plant fossils, vertebrate remains, and assorted minerals, rocks, and biological specimens. Archiving this material, much of which could be lost to future generations of scientists, is an integral part of our mission.
2,500 The data is constantly gathered as specimens come into the museum and are then entered into the database on Re:Discovery. Specimens added in 2010 and 2011 include a valuable collection of plant fossils, vertebrate remains, and assorted minerals, rocks, and biological specimens. Archiving this material, much of which could be lost to future generations of scientists, is an integral part of our mission. The FY2011 total is much lower because the addition of specimens is opportunistic and varies from year to year.
3,000 The data is constantly gathered as specimens come into the Museum and are then entered into the database on ReDiscovery. Specimens added in FY2012 include valuable collections of plant fossils, invertebrates, mammals, vertebrate fossils, and rocks. Archiving this material, much of which could be lost to future generations of scientists, is an integral part of our mission. The FY2012 total is about the same as for FY2011, although a number of specimens for some disciplines cannot be determined exactly until they are completely prepared. Therefore, this number represents the minimum number of specimens added.
516 This number includes 30 jacketed paleontology specimens; each jacket may contain hundreds of specimens; final numbers cannot be determined until specimens are prepared.
2,427 Approximately 2427 specimens; 100 boxes paleobotany material; 82 boxes and 17 bags of archaeological artifacts; 2 boxes, 17 jars and 4 vials of recent invertebrate specimens.
1,338 Approximately 1,338 individual specimens; 2 bags, 5 drawers and a "to be determined" number of boxes and several cabinets of paleontological fossil materials via gifts and field work and salvage operations at Solite; 17 bags of paleontological fossil materials received via gifts, salvage, and field work at Carmel Church Quarry; 747 jars/vials of identified recent invertebrates stored in alcohol.
869 Total acquisitions recorded for FY 2016 include 670 individual specimens, 188 boxes of archaeological artifacts, and 11 sets of otolith samples.
3,313 Total acquisitions recorded for FY 2017 include 2,964 individual specimens, 37 boxes of archaeological artifacts, 11 bags of fossil material, 2 boxes of recent invertebrate specimens, 274 jars of recent invertebrate specimens, and 25 vials of recent invertebrate specimens.
7,153 Total acquisitions recorded for FY 2018 include 6843 individual specimens, 66 bags of specimens, 238 vials of recent invertebrate specimens, and 6 boxes of geologic specimens.
3,266 Total acquisitions: 3,061 individual specimens, 65 vials of specimens, 131 boxes of archaeological specimens, 9 jars of invertebrate specimens
3,205 Total acquisitions: 2,989 individual specimens, 146 vials of specimens, 62 jars of invertebrate specimens, 8 boxes of geological specimens
11,816 Total acquisitions: 11,788 individual specimens, 28 vials of invertebrate specimens
8,311 Total acquisitions: 7,866 individual specimens, 445 vials of invertebrate specimens
