2011 2,816 The Department of Aviation partners with the Virginia Industry for the Blind to receive packaging, mailing and sorting services to reach Virginia’s private and public schools in the Aerospace Education Program. Aviation met its performance target for fiscal year 2011 and continues to investigate the use of other contact media to potentially expand the reach of the program.
2012 2,276 The Department of Aviation partners with the Virginia Industry for the Blind to receive packaging, mailing and sorting services to reach Virginia’s private and public schools in the Aerospace Education Program. Aviation sent materials out to public and private schools in FY2012 with the mailing list provided by Virginia Industries for the Blind. The list contained 2,276 schools this year. Previous years, the Department of Aviation used a conglomerate of mailing lists but the return rate exceeded expectations and in order to save funds the Department of Aviation dropped the unverified lists. The Department of Aviation continues to investigate the use of other contact media to potentially expand the reach of the program.

2017 2,800 As a part of its Aviation Education Program, the Virginia Department of Aviation mailed aviation education materials; including information and applications for aviation teacher’s grants, aviation scholarships and an aviation art contest; to 2700 public and private schools in Virginia in the fall of 2016 along with an additional 100 copies to additional organizations. The materials were mailed by James River Industries (BBR Print Inc.). The Department of Aviation continues to investigate the use of additional contact media to expand the reach of the program.
