Data Source and Calculation
Source: TANF client data in the Virginia Case Management System (VaCMS) linked with earnings data from the Virginia Employment Commission (VEC). This measure tracks cohorts of former TANF VIEW clients who are employed in the quarter following their exit from the program. Clients are adults who are the head of the household and required to participate in VIEW. For the purposes of matching TANF and VEC data, only participants with valid social security numbers are included in the analysis. "Employed" is defined as having any wages reported during the quarter following their exit. VEC does not release new quarterly earnings data until six months after the end of the quarter, because the earnings information from employers for the two most recent quarters are incomplete.
