Data Source and Calculation
The data source is the Virginia Newcomer Information System (VNIS). Case managers document initial employment and wage information for each refugee. VNIS aggregates this information for each resettlement provider and calculates employment rates. The calculation is the number of work-eligible refugees who are employed at the 90th day after their first job placement divided by the total number of refugees placed in a job. This is a standard measure that is reported to the U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement. The 90-day retention rate is obtained from the ORR6 employment report and represents full-time employment.
