Data Source and Calculation
Permit holders are required to report the amount of pollution permitted to be discharged. Pounds of nutrients discharged each calendar year is obtained from the permit data available in the Comprehensive Environmental Data System (CEDS). It is then compared to that collected during the baseline period, calendar year 2004. Note, the targets are equal to WIP III Goals.

2011 985,027.797 There are three reasons why the phosphorous loads have decreased below both the short-term and long-term targets: Installation of phosphorus removal facilities has proceeded on an expedited schedule; Operation of the installed facilities is better than design expectations; and, Wastewater flows remain below design capacity for most of the facilities. Design capacity was the basis for establishing the load target at each facility. As population increases in the future, flows will approach design capacity and operational efficiencies will approach design efficiencies. Reporting period is identified as the calendar year, ending December 31. An update is expected in July, each year. Data from earlier years was provided to give a historical context for the nutrient loading numbers provided.
