<p>The state veterinarian and her assistant maintain a log of all samples submitted to a laboratory for analysis. In order to calculate the total number of samples for a given year, the number of blood and Total Bicarbonate samples from the Thoroughbred races are added to the number of blood and Total Bicarbonate samples from the Standardbred races which take place during each calendar year. The invoices from the testing laboratory are used as back-up documentation for this measure.</p>
