2006 4 The opening of the new McGlothlin Wing of the museum in May 2010 allowed for a greater number of exhibitions on the VMFA campus in Richmond in FY11, which totaled 28. There were also 3 exhibitions that travelled to partner sites throughout Virginia; "Goya, Dali, Warhol: Masterpieces of World Art from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts," "Van Gogh, Lichtenstein, Whistler: Masterpieces of World Art from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts," and "The Fleeting Glimpse: Selections in Modern and Contemporary Photography from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts."

2015 24 In FY2015, there were 4 major exhibitions and 15 collection exhibitions on-site, 2 major traveling exhibitions off-site, and 3 off-site Statewide. Major exhibitions included Van Gogh, Manet, and Matisse: The Art of the Flower and Forbidden City: Imperial Treasures from the Palace Museum, Beijing.
2016 22 In FY2016, there were 4 major exhibitions and 12 collection exhibitions on-site, 2 major traveling exhibitions off-site, and 4 off-site Statewide. Major exhibitions included Rodin: Evolution of a Genius, Japanese Tattoo: Perseverance, Art, Tradition, and Thomas Schiff: Virginia 360.
2017 20 In FY2017, there are 5 major exhibitions and 12 collection-based exhibitions on-site, and 3 off-site Statewide exhibitions. Major exhibitions included Jasper Johns and Edvard Munch: Love, Loss, and the Cycle of Life, Gordon Parks: Back to Fort Scott, and Kehinde Wiley: A New Republic.
