The original methodology that indicated enforcement cases would be closed within 90 calendar days of complaint is generally unrealistic and was established during a time of staff turnover and unfamiliarity with the enforcement process. In general a non continuing professional education (CPE) deficient enforcement case will average 150 days for closure. The Board of Accountancy will be requesting a modification to the measure methodology as we move forward.

The VBOA underwent significant changes to its Enforcement processes during the 1st half of FY2016. During this time, hearings/enforcement action was delayed until such time that new processes and procedures were approved and implemented. It is anticipated that improvements to the FY2016 time frames for closing enforcement cases will improve in FY2017.
