Data Source and Calculation
The Commonwealth’s financial system (Cardinal) enables the tracking of expenditures for the State Park Reservation System agency administrative costs. The expenditures for the cost code will determine the administrative costs to the agency for the reservation system. The Agency's reservation software (Reserve America) tracks the number of reservations made for the state park system. The following data are collected to calculate the measure results: 1) the number of reservations made during the Fiscal Year; 2) total operating costs, (total cost of operating the reservation center and reflects a mix of full-time and seasonal staff); 3) administrative fees collected (a $5.00 transaction fee assessed for each reservation made); and 4) net operating costs, (total operating costs minus the administrative fees collected). This last calculation is made because this is a productivity measure and the transaction fees are dependent upon the number of reservations processed. Consequently, the more reservations processed, the lower the net operating costs and the greater the efficiency. Annual net operating costs are divided by the number of reservations made annually to determine the cost of the each reservation made in the Fiscal Year.
