The federal CDBG grant has been reduced thus fewer job producing projects have been awarded over the last 2-3 years. FY 2016 reflects a19+ reduction in the number of jobs created in FY2015. This is due to a decrease in available funding for the Building Entrepreneurial Economies program as well as a majority of our DHCD job creation resources being invested in planning efforts to increase community capacity for future economic development opportunities that will result in the creation of jobs. A majority of these programs provide funding for planning and implementation.
2017 2,652 FY2017 reflects a 23+ increase in jobs created from FY2016. In FY2017, there was a 34+ increase in grant funds expended resulting in job creation. Specifically, in FY2017, the Industrial Revitalization Fund (IRF) and the VMS programs each tripled the number of jobs created and the BEE and Community Business Launch (CBL) programs each doubled the number of jobs created from FY2016. The FY 2016 number was incorrectly reported and was actually 2038 jobs created in FY 2016.
2018 1,670 FY2018 reflects an increase of DHCD investments in economic development grants that support job creation and is primarily attributed to a significant increase in jobs created through the IRF, VMS, and BEE programs.
